Comparing Errors and Omissions to Commercial General Liability
Commercial General Liability CGL policies provide coverage for Bodily Injury and Property Damage. For example, if you visit a job site and put your briefcase on the ground and someone trips over it and is injured, your CGL policy will respond. CGL policies commonly exclude claims related to professional advice, as this is covered through a separate E and O policy. Every business should carry commercial general liability insurance.
Professional Liability Professional liability insurance is also known as Errors and Omissions (E and O) insurance. Errors and Omissions provides coverage for loss incurred due to a flaw or omission in design, mistakes in design documents and drawings, or design related advice. For example if you specify a product that is unsuitable for its intended use or you design a feature that is not to code and there is resulting bodily injury or property damage, the E and O policy will respond.
